BREATHE Pregnancy Retreat – 16th August

How My Motherhood Journey Led Me to HER. Studio

I found out I was pregnant while travelling around Australia.
This photo- the one that still makes me laugh- was taken on Christmas morning… in a caravan toilet.

At the time, home was Newcastle. It’s where we had our community, our businesses, and our careers. Life was full and familiar. But as my pregnancy progressed, we decided to take a leap- moving to the Sunshine Coast during my third trimester, knowing deep down that it was where we wanted to raise our kids.

We didn’t all that many people- no one who was in the season of having babies.
My partner was still working back in Newcastle most weeks, trying to wrap up business commitments.
It was a huge change- and at times, an isolating one.

Not long after we arrived, I joined the Sunday Pregnancy Yoga classes (and cuppas of course). They became my lifeline.

I instantly met women who were also pregnant- like-minded, open, and so welcoming. We’d sip cuppas together after class, share stories, ask questions, and laugh at the weird and wonderful realities of pregnancy.

For the first time since moving, I felt seen.
I felt part of something.
And that connection was honestly the highlight of my week.

The Power of Pregnancy-Specific Movement

Throughout my second and third trimesters, I felt strong and grounded in my body- no discomfort, no aches, no pain. I put that down to one thing: doing Pilates and Yoga specifically designed for pregnancy.

These classes supported every stage of my changing body and reminded me of what an incredible thing the female body truly is- adapting, expanding, creating space, and adjusting every single day.

Postpartum: Returning to My Village

After my baby arrived, I returned to postnatal classes as soon as I could. I honestly couldn’t wait to be back with my newfound mamasitas.

We met multiple times a week. The exercise was incredible, yes- but often, the cuppas and chats afterwards lasted even longer than the class itself.

There were so many shared moments of laughter, tears, and raw honesty:

  • Crying after sleepless nights
  • Supporting each other through colicky babies and mastitis
  • Admitting that we were desperate for space from our babies, only to miss them the second they weren’t in our arms

Those mornings became the heart of my week.

My Sunshine Coast mamacitas

Completely new to the Sunshine Coast, I didn’t know many people before joining those classes. With my husband working away, the days were long and often lonely.

But through that space, I found my mamascitas- women who became some of my closest friends.

Two years on, we’re still together: taking our kids to swimming lessons, doing beach days, and sharing family dinners. What started as a yoga class became a lifelong friendship.

My driver to HER. Studio

That experience shaped me deeply. It made my pregnancy, birth, and postnatal journey one of the most incredible seasons of my life.

It’s also the reason why I’m so passionate about bringing HER. Studio to the Sunshine Coast.

Because every mama deserves this-

  • A place to move safely and confidently during pregnancy and beyond
  • A space to connect, share, and be supported
  • A community that becomes your village

Yes, the exercise component of our Mums & Bubs classes helped me regain my strength, pelvic floor, and core within months- but that’s not what I remember most.

What I remember is the connection.
The laughter.
The cuppas.
And the way those classes carried me through motherhood.
